ABOUT US

APOWA (Action for Protection of Wild Animals) is a registered nonprofit organisation situated in a rural village of Kendrapara district of Orissa state. It is recognized by Animal Welfare Board of India, Ministry of Environment & Forests, Govt of India in the year 1999. Further, APOWA is affiliated to Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathana, Govt of India in the year 2007.Apart from that, APOWA has worked in partnership with a range of organisation & departments at the international, national, regional, & grass root level. The strategy has been to collaborate with others to build synergies, achieve a multiplier effect, enhance effectiveness and widen the range of programmes.

Caring animals and environment with all protection having given to them opens of the starting point of the big race we have been in. Over the years APOWA has been working in the field of sustainable environment, protection to coastal eco system including mangrove biodiversity, wildlife conservation, protection to Olive Ridley sea turtles & animal welfare in the coastal districts of Orissa state. It has developed innovative programmes, undertaken various projects, and built capacities of the local in the field of environment. By the way, our endeavor during natural disasters, which are common in our area. Rescue and relief operations have given us lots more pleasure and the given of experiences we have had, not to mince matters, has been but a paradigm for others to follow. During flood we had rescued and provided shelter to thousands of people and animals. We have been closely associated with school students and there we have formed Karuna clubs and promote humane education. APOWA targets the future inheritors of this society and tomorrow's planners and administrators. This is doubtless, a proven attempt, a platform to promote environmental conservation and compassion towards all living beings.

Management Board

1.Bijaya Kumar Rout, M.A., LLB, President: Besides being the President of APOWA, he has set up a large number of Organizations. He is also involved in social work since 1978, mainly in rural villages of Kendrapara district. He has been experience in publication of various books on English grammar. Apart from that he has trained from National English language testing service, CIEFL, Hyderabad, Xavier Institute of management, Bhubaneswar, Peoples Development Communication Network, Bhubaneswar. 

2.Nigamananda Tripathy, B.A., B.Ed, Vice President: He has been experience of 10 years in social work and environmental protection. His innovative ideas have making APOWA a big hit. 

3.Rashmi Ranjan Kabi, B.Sc, M.S.W., Secretary: His special interest is on animal welfare and environment since his childhood. He is young and a dynamic for above field. As a result of his hard work and leadership, he has inculcated the great force of team spirit within the organization. He is also a member of the various national organizations; i.e. PEOPLE FOR ANIMALS, Wildlife Trust of India- International Fund for Animal Welfare etc.

4.Narayan Mallick, Intermediate, Asst. Secretary: Generally he is rural farmer from SC community and experience in sustainable agriculture and rural development. 

5.Sanjukta Samal, Intermediate, Treasurer: She is representating for the Mahila Mandal and leader of the community of weaker section of the society. She has been experience in networking with number of Women organizations. Beside that she is looking after the financial matter of the organisation along with secretary. 

6.Bijaya Kumar Kabi, M.A., M.Phil, Philosophy, Executive Member & Director: A Lecturer by profession, and serve the AWBI, Ministry of Environment and Forests, Govt of India as Honorary Animal welfare officer. He is also member of South Asian Network of Zoo educators Association. His Experience as a social worker and successful leadership has been valuable to APOWA, of which he is an executive body member and Director. He was also receiptant of best social worker award from SCART-Orissa. 

7.Baburam Nayak, B.A., Executive Member & Coordinator: He has rich experience in the social sector and is an educator in the area of Leadership and Motivational skills. His creative abilities, administrative and management skills has helped the organization in its transition.
