          Our Partners

Our Core Concept

It was a challenge, when APOWA was started. We were unknown, had no assets, no infrastructure, no resources starting in a remote village that few had ever heard of. So, turning the vision into reality seemed unlikely, but our dedicated team made it possible and turns the vision to come true! Now, APOWA has been taking a leadership role in this sector in Odisha. APOWA has been steered by a capable and knowledgeable group of people.  APOWA has experienced and qualified human resources which possess demonstrated skills to handle the projects technically as well as financially according to set TORs and to the complete satisfaction of funding partners. APOWA keeps with continuous process of capacity building of staff in the field work, monitoring, finance procedures, and project documentation. The organization believes that human development is the key for sustainable development and capacity building with gender sensitivity as cross cutting theme.

In the course of 17 years of development work at the grassroots level, the organization has acquired special skills and experience in community led initiative and the process of building up community based organizations. As one of the leading organizations in the State, it has a high standing as a reliable committed voluntary organization in Non-Government circles.  This is borne out by the fact that the Government has nominated APOWA to various state and district level consultative/ advisory committees from time to time. Krushi Vigyan Kendra, under Odisha University of Agriculture Technology, Govt of India has nominated as member of the Scientific Advisory Committee for KVK Programme in Kendrapara district. Funding agencies too, hold a very favourable impression for APOWA, because of its reach at the grassroots level, consistency in field and community involvement, and transparent in project management and judicious handling of funds.

Organisational Structure

The heart and, indeed, the mind of the organization has always been its management body. The management board of APOWA is committed to an open, engaged and accountable process of sustaining of our mission. The governing body of the organization holds the apex power of the decision-making. The organization has an executive board that frames the policies and passes down action items to the ground level working team. There are several different wings of the ground level working team and every wing has several general members who implement the policies and work items of the organization.  General body meeting is held every year. The executive board is elected for a five year term and is dissolved and newly elected by and from the members by an electoral process. An advisory committee has formed to guide the work further.  Members of the organization operate at the local levels to effect positive change. It is a powerful collection of volunteers from villages to villages.

APOWA is wedded to the principle of transparency in the matter of financial management since its very birth. The qualified and experienced staffs maintain the accounts of the organization.  The Secretary and the Treasurer (distinguished unpaid volunteer) of the organization jointly operates the Bank accounts. Most of the payments are made through cheque. Each year, the accounts, bills and vouchers of the organization are audited by a qualified Charted Accountant.  The annual accounts has been presented and approved by the general body of APOWA each year.
